Product Description

This variety, which has proven its reliability over time, features thick stalks of a mid-green hue, known for their superb flavour. Once established, the beds will yield good crops for 15-20 years.

Growing Instructions

Sow indoors: Jan

Sow outdoors: April

Harvest: Jun-Apr

This plant is notably easy to grow and is recommended for anyone. Start by sowing seeds indoors in January or directly outside from mid-April. Whether sown indoors or outdoors, it's advisable to soak the seeds overnight in warm water to aid germination. Once seeds sown indoors have germinated, they can be transplanted outdoors, spacing them approximately 12 inches apart. For seeds sown directly outside, initially thin them to 8-inch spacings, and then once the plants are more established, thin them again to 12-inch spacings.

It's recommended not to harvest the stems for the first three years to allow the plants to establish themselves fully. Keep the area weed-free and ensure the soil doesn't dry out. Adding well-rotted organic matter to the soil before planting or sowing will promote vigorous growth, and an annual mulch of the same will greatly benefit the plants.
